Just a few bit of info =)
Merry Christmas.
17 prosince New Watts New WattsOne of my biggest concerns about how we get our electricity is how long it will last, how long until we run out of the sources? There are methods that have waste/pollution, and then there are the clean methods like Solar and Wind. The methods that have waste/pollution tend to have the biggest bang for the buck, but we don't know how long our sources will last or if they will make us sick. The clean methods don't really require us to mine for fuel so the potential to last forever is good, we will still need the material to make and repair the solar and wind plants but there isn't really any waste/pollution.
In order for us to keep our home planets' value, we should take as much care of it as possible. There are jobs that people have that are important for survival, what good will the money be if it is too unhealthy to live in the world with cheap electricity? I think there will be a small shift from our current sources to cleaner sources, some of the jobs will also shift there to building and maintaining solar and wind plants. Monthly fees are still possible since the power is from plants and not the sometimes unaffordable systems that are built into the home. This will greatly reduce our resource usage and pollution without ditching our current multi-billion(?) dollar sources.
Here are some quotes from an article I found.
"For about $55 per megawatt-hour, EPRI found, coal could be gasified and burned, and the carbon dioxide sequestered. Power plants running on gasified coal have not been commercialized yet, but conventional pulverized-coal plants could be built that would sequester their carbon dioxide, and they would produce power at about $65 per megawatt-hour. Those technologies are perceived by investors as lower risk, and the United States has hundreds of years' worth of coal." "But GNEP may be a mirage. For one thing, the sponsors have hardly any idea what it would cost; the $250 million proposed by the Bush administration is for a program that hopes to figure that out. GNEP backers say their technology will expand the supply of nuclear fuel enough to slash carbon emissions virtually forever and allow us to avoid the specter of choosing between global warming and very high-priced energy. It would appear, however, that saving money on nuclear fuel may be practical only if price is no object."
Quoted from: http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/17059/page5/ "Most of the initial $250 million would be spent just to study how the new technologies might work and what they would cost. But its proponents' thinking is that we need a very long-term vision. The Energy Department predicts that 1,000 nuclear power plants will be running worldwide by midcentury, up from 441 today. And the existing uranium supply, GNEP advocates argue, won't feed that many reactors."
Quoted from: http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/17059/page3/ "Such reactors are the most promising near-term alternative to additional conventional coal plants that produce prodigious amounts of carbon dioxide. But it is uncertain when or if they will be built. If it is to happen, the industry must persuade investors to take a big plunge. That means convincing them that the plants will compete financially with other inherently low-carbon-emitting sources, like wind turbines, or with coal plants that sequester their carbon dioxide -- a technology that may be achievable but hasn't yet been demonstrated (see " The Dirty Secret ") . According to the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), a nonprofit utility research organization based in Palo Alto, CA, whose members include owners of coal and nuclear plants, the near-term reactor designs may barely be cheaper than the sequestration technology. And if the United States puts no constraints on carbon emissions, nuclear power will have to keep competing with conventional coal plants."
"Meanwhile, the industry is still waiting for a solution to its chief near-term problem: what to do with waste piling up at existing nuclear plants. Skip Bowman, president and CEO of the Nuclear Energy Institute, the industry's trade group, says that without a speedy waste solution, today's tentative renaissance will "come to a screeching halt." A company cannot get a license for a new plant without a plan for the waste, and at this point, waiting for the Energy Department to open its long-delayed Yucca Mountain waste repository in Nevada does not constitute a plan. In this context, Bowman says, GNEP presents a "distraction factor." " Quoted from: http://www.technologyreview.com/Energy/17059/page2/ "Today, a company called Skyonic announced a novel new system, Skymine, which uses the carbon dioxide emitted from smokestacks to make baking soda. According to Skyonic CEO Joe David Jones, the system will be powered by waste heat from factories, and will produce food-grade baking soda."
Quoted from: http://www.cnn.com/2007/TECH/science/11/29/climate.change.soda/index.html So much information here. About the cap and trade system, I am afraid that this system may allow the worst polluting plants to continue for too long without limiting their pollution. It may not provide enough incentive to clean up, and that may lead to new "worst polluters". But then again, it might be a giant leap in the right direction.
26 listopadu Extremist Alcohol AbuseWhy I decide to drink myself to death. (A sarcastic attempt to save lives) Because I want to. I was never taught that it takes only a small amount of alcohol to get a buzz and enjoy life. Because I did not know how to appreciate life and everything we have unless I am drunk. Because I did not understand that drinking too much is unhealthy. Because I did not know that my liver is an important organ. Because I did not understand the difference between "use and abuse". Because I would rather spend my money on getting drunk than on health insurance that I will use. Because it seems like there is nothing else to do or anything else interesting to learn. Because It did not seem like anyone would help me. Because I thought I would always be the same and never grow up. Because I love puking my guts out and laughing about the hangover. Because I did not know. (I will not drink myself to death.) Now I know. 13 listopadu Please Donate!!http://www.myspace.com/tuggit Half-way down the page there is a button that says "Donate"!!! Please save a life!!! Want to hire a writer? 08 října The Name CallersThe more I think about it the less it seems that I know about the specific
situation, but more about our own. Sometimes there are these groups of less fortunate people, and then there are the groups that have plans to turn the world around for the better, plans to heal the pain and to cure the sick. Their destinations aren't always the richest or cleanest of places but the goal is to find the sick wherever they are. At least one of them is called a whore by some even though there are so
many less offensive words that can be used as a description, and at least one of them is addicted to something and is also called offensive names because of that also unfortunately. We are pretty sure that these people do like to feel good and that is partially where their intent is, survival, healing, and love are some of their other intents. More later. 12 srpna Lesson In TactIt seems like there is a lot to sort through, but about nuclear power there
is something I've been wondering about, what to do with the waste. It has no greenhouse emmissions but it does still have waste, but at least we wont be breathing it with the air that we breathe. There have been issues with this form of power but it seems like that is because of a poorly planned system. Sorry for only giving a single source for this info, their sources are given towards the bottom of the page. "Chernobyl reactors were of the problematic RBMK design only used in the
Soviet Union, for example lacking containment buildings."* "Current light water reactors make relatively inefficient use of nuclear
fuel, leading to energy waste. But nuclear reprocessing makes this waste reusable (except in the USA, where this is not allowed) and more efficient reactor designs would allow better use of the available resources (and reduce the amount of waste material)."* So from what I understand, even some of the waste can be recycled and used
again, not only is there less mining which possibly means less destruction of natural earth, it also means that it's less pollution and waste even though it provides a huge amount electricity. Less drawbacks and still getting the benefits. "Most low-level waste releases very low levels of radioactivity and
is only considered radioactive waste because of its history. For
example, according to the standards of the NRC, the radiation
released by coffee is enough to treat it as low level waste."*
"In countries with nuclear power, radioactive wastes comprise less than
1% of total industrial toxic wastes, which remain hazardous indefinitely
unless they decompose or are treated so that they are less toxic or, ideally, completely non-toxic.[21] Overall, nuclear power produces far less waste material than fossil-fuel based power plants. Coal-burning plants are particularly noted for producing large amounts of toxic and mildly radioactive ash due to concentrating naturally occurring metals and radioactive material from the coal. Contrary to popular belief, coal power actually results in more radioactive waste being released into the environment than nuclear power."* "According to a 2007 story broadcast on 60 Minutes, nuclear power gives
France the cleanest air of any industrialized country, and the cheapest electricity in all of Europe."* "Nuclear generation does not directly produce sulfur dioxide, nitrogen
oxides, mercury or other pollutants associated with the combustion of fossil fuels (pollution from fossil fuels is blamed for many deaths each year in the U.S. alone[61]). It also does not directly produce carbon dioxide, which has led some environmentalists to advocate increased reliance on nuclear energy as a means to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (which contribute to global warming). Non-radioactive water vapor is the significant operating emission from nuclear power plants."* It is my opinion that we shouldn't completely abandon current sources
of power, we could instead keep them and the jobs they provide around while we continue to do more research and ease the pressure. Hopefully the current and future sources of power will receive technology that reduces any harmful side-effects. Power plants are not the only source of pollution, vehicles like cars, trucks, tractors, trains, helicopters, jets/airplanes, tanks, boats/ships, and factories are all places to look to improve. Waste disposal is also an issue. Single passenger vehicles like motor-
cycles, mopeds, as well as all-weather vehicles can be used for traveling without passengers to reduce emissions, which also possibly provide better mileage at the cost of interior space and quickness. *http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_power 17 července Buzzed BunnyIs it the rabbit that is late, or the lesson?

I've noticed that the rehab centers in the areas that I've been living are either very small, or just overcrowded. Homeless shelters are non-existent unless the person that needs it is female and/or under 18, maybe I just haven't found the place yet. 07 července Perfect WorldIt is my opinion that in a perfect world, parents wouldn't force their
kids to be homeless.
12 května Who haven't you wished was dead?Do the cops go through a psycological evaluation before getting hired?
How about annual or random, maybe even whenever a complaint arises? Are the people doing the evaluations influenced by those in power, or writing their checks? The murder rates are higher in the states that allow the death penalty,
is that because the death penalty is considered murder, or maybe also because people murder others to avoid prison and/or the death penalty? Is it possible that Death Row exists outside of prisons as well? 09 května Court Sin SessionThe People vs the People (And the little system that could)
... Allegedly ...
Maybe justice was forced, we might not have understood at the time,
maybe justice was blind but hopefully WE don't have to be. Fact/Opinion: The USA has harsh punishment, sometimes it seems like an
utter lack of compassion, as well as power hungry. I'm thinking about never paying taxes again until it's straightened out. I got kind of sick writing about only the positive things in life,
especially since so many people are currently suffering and continuing to suffer the wrath of the "justice system". Why do people put so much dedication into defending a broken system, why do they act like it's so flawless? Why is the justice system so biased? The justice system can hurt people and get away with it, but should it? If every or at least the majority of people got let out of prison, how
much higher would the unemployment rate be? Is that really whats important though? If there is more people but the same amount of jobs being offered ... but if some of those people became job offerers it might be different. From what I can tell, the system is creates with rules and SOMEBODY has to monitor the system to make sure it works
properly, or else people might start committing fraud and abusing it.
I am convinced that the justice system has been turned into a pyramid
scheme, so if you are thinking of moving to the U.S., please don't. It's a rip off since most of the flaws that are pointed out get buried, ignored along with the rest of the innocent cries of the children from this once great country. This is obviously a problem, I'm going to get as loud as it take to get this taken care of, how about you? - Writing from "The Den Of All Evil" (City name given by local Judge) |
